Analytics + Design

Hi, I'm Olivia Shipley

I started in art, found my way to science, and somewhere between fieldwork and teaching myself statistics, realized data visualization was where both lived.

The analysis is only half the job.

I enjoy making the connections between bold ideas and the people that execute them, because the analysis is only half the job. The other half is real, genuine communication. When I'm not doing that, I'm in ballet class, knee-deep in a landscaping project, or building something open source.

  • Build data cleaning and transformation pipelines in R to normalize multi-source datasets
  • Deliver stakeholder-facing reports and presentations to Air Force/Space Force leadership
  • Statistical analysis (data validation, ANOVA, t-tests, etc.) for McClellan is ongoing and remains a large part of my workload
Jan 2023 – Feb 2025
Environmental Scientist III
Matrix Design Group
  • Conducted groundwater sampling and field work across 6+ ADEQ contamination sites in Arizona
  • Led statistical analysis and data validation applying t-tests, ANOVA, and CUSUM control charts in R
  • Managed environmental databases (EnviroData/Chronos) per U.S. EPA National Functional Guidelines
2016 – 2020
Research Assistant
Texas A&M University
  • Collected marine sediment samples and oceanographic data across the Caribbean; created bathymetry maps using ArcGIS and R
  • Collaborated with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on marine data collection and processing
